Stay @ Markhu/Kulekhani

Markhu is situated at Makwanpur district, about 55 Km south from Kathmandu. Surely it is one of the most exquisite place near Kathmandu for dodging a city life and enjoying the pleasant mood. “Markhu” place also know as Kulekhani or Indrasarovar. Markhu is famous for “Indrasarovar Lake” which is 7 km long largest man made lake in Nepal.

Major attractions in Markhu :

• For the nature lover beautiful view of a village, hills and lake will be most appealing.
• Boating in the lake, there are both wooden and motor boat we can use. Life jacket is provided for safety.
• Night stay with friends and family, in Markhu there are many lakeside village style resort and homestay. We can do campfire, barbeque, play guitar, dance, enjoy music near lakeside.
• Go for a short hike, we can explore the villages and a waterfall during the hike near Markhu.
• We also can extend our weekend trip from Markhu to Chitlang which is another popular destination as Markhu sharing similar offering.
• Ride to Markhu itself is fun with curving road along the river and hills. Best for those wanting little dirt terrain for the weekend ride.
• Fresh fish from lake to eat is really delicious.

Route to Markhu: There are two ways we can reach to Markhu from Kathmandu. One from Thankot>Chandragiri>Chitlang>Markhu and another way from Balkhu>Chovar>Taudaha>Dakshinkali>Pharping>Fakhel>Markhu. If you want to visit markhu and Chitlang both then make a round trip, Balkhu>Chovar>Taudaha>Dakshinkali>Pharping>Fakhel>Markhu> Chitlang>Chandragiri>Thankot or Thankot>Chandragiri>Chitlang>Markhu>Fakhel>Pharping>Dakshinkali>Taudaha>Chovar>Balkhu. For hiking take route from Thankot to Markhu steep hills to climb and route from Balkhu to Markhu is suitable for bike/jeep ride. Roads are full of dirt so do not forget to carry full helmet and masks for both rider and pillion.

Estimated cost: Cost for Staying a night in Markhu cost around NPR 2000 per person in most of the resort which includes welcome snacks, dinner, cottage, breakfast, lunch, music and boating. Cost will add up if drinks taken, barbeque about NPR 800 per kg marinated chicken, about NPR 1000 for wooden logs for campfire. Boating cost around NPR 200 per person, for motor boat it cost around NPR 400 per person. Homestay will cost slightly less than resort with exact same activities 🙂 However cost may vary according to need.
